Birthday Villa

Birthday Villa was named after Birthday Mine at Drummond - discovered on Queen Victoria's Birthday. It has 4 acres of old vines, planted in the 1960s. The vineyard was originally planted with gewurtztraminer; about one acre of vines have been grafted to cabeernet sauvignon in recent years (1980s).
Our traminer table wine is spicy and aromatic, with a nose of lychees and roses. It complements Asian foods and fish dishes. Our 2003 vintage was a Bronze Medal winner at the DAylesford Wine Show 2004.
The auslese traminer (late pick) is a delicate dessert wine which is also a great accompaniment to a cheese platter.
The cabernet vines produce a beautiful herbaceous, berry flavoured wine, dark ruby red in color. It has cool climate characteristics and is much sought after by many wine connoisseurs.
Our 2003 vintage was also a Bronze Medal winner at the Daylesford Wine Show 2004.
In spring 2006 we will be releasing two new wines: our 2004 Cabernet, a silver medal wine at the 2005 Daylesford Wine Show and our 2005 Auslese Gewurtztraminer, a dessert wine.
The wine from Birthday Villa is made solely from grapes grown on our property. It is processed and bottled at Bendigo TAFE. Mal Steward was the winemaker at Bendigo TAFE until 2003. Greg Dedman is now the winemaker.
