The Macedon Ranges forms part of the Great Dividing Range and Central Victorian Highlands. The bulk of the vineyards in the region are at an elevation of between 500 and 550 meters above sea level.
Positioned about 40 minutes drive North-West of Melbourne the region is divided into two distinct regions North and South of the divide. Both regions share similar volcanic based mountain soils and the cool climate, with particularly cool autumns.
The relatively low yields and late ripening of the fruit are particularly suited to the high quality, minimal intervention style of the many of the regions winemakers. The region is made up of mostly small to medium sized family run boutique wineries.
The region is uniquely suited to the production of ultra premium sparkling wine, but also produces high quality Riesling through Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Harvest Time: April through to June.
