Morgan Vineyards

Morgan Vineyards is situated only one hours drive from the Melbourne CBD, signed off the Warburton Highway.
Outstanding and distinctive wines at reasonable prices in an exceptional setting. Wines made include Chardonnay, Rose, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon from our own grapes, and a Heathcote Shiraz.
Our aim is to produce wines with the depth of flavour, elegance and balance that typify wines from this region. This region now boasts sixteen wineries and is emerging as one of the most exciting in terms of 'cool climate' viticulture within Australia.
Following the original plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir in 1971, Morgan Vineyards has gradually grown to fill the 20 acre property in the picturesque rolling hills of Seville, just South of the Warburton Highway. Subsequent plantings by us in 1989 (additional Pinot), 1991 (more Cabernet Sauvignon plus Merlot) and lastly 1994 (Chardonnay) have brought the area under vine up to 12 acres.
All of our wines (except for our Shiraz, fruit sourced from Heathcote) are produced from grapes grown on our property – we pick by hand from low yielding vines and all wines are made and bottled by us in the Winery complex behind the tasting room. Morgan Vineyards is a family-run business - Roger, the winemaker and vineyard manager, completed all academic requirements of the Wine Science Degree Course at Charles Sturt University in 1997 and his wife Ally runs the marketing and administration side of the business.
We are ably and enthusiastically assisted by our combined offspring of 3 sons and 2 daughters - tacit support (and security) is also provided by Bobby, Jess & Rosie our canine and feline helpers!
Our approach to winemaking is simply to make the best possible wines by adopting a rigorous regime of vineyard management to produce low yields of ripe fruit with maximum sun exposure, together with an uncompromising approach to quality within the winery. We utilise traditional French winemaking techniques throughout the production process and we aim to minimise the use of chemical and other additives to the wines we make. Additionally we use the highest quality oak barrels to mature our wines – French for all varieties except Shiraz which spends up to 18 months in American oak,
As all of our wines are practically unfiltered (we only use a very light filter as part of the bottling line) they may throw a harmless crust upon cellaring. As the total winemaking operation, including bottling, is conducted in our on-site winery we are able to pay the attention to detail required to maximise the potential of our old vines – to produce the type of fruit-driven elegantly structured wines for which the Yarra Valley is famous.
Free barbeque facilities are available - BYO food, bookings essential.
