Winery Info
Rowanston on the Track

Rowanston on the Track is a boutique family vineyard on the Burke and Wills Track between Lancefield & Heathcote, 95 kilometres north of Melbourne. (76 Kilometres north of Melbourne International Airport)
Explorers Burke and Will travelled past the property en route to Swan Hill on the first leg of their ill fated journey in August 1861.
The vineyard overlooks the McCarg Ranges and is located on an historic family farm where many original stone fences remain.
The first wine made in 2001 won several awards at local wine shows, encouraging our passion to produce top quality boutique wines. The heavy red soils (terra rossa) and basalt outcrops favour the production of deep colored, rich flavoured wines. The key to our lovely wines begins in the vineyard with hand pruning, moisture monitoring, minimal to zero use of chemicals and meticulous selection of ripe rich berries for winemaking.
All wines are handpicked and made using traditional techniques which include gentle crushing, open vat fermentation, and basket pressing, followed by maturation in oak barrels.
We are currently nurturing 10 acres of Shiraz planted between 1998 and 2000, 4 acres of Merlot, planted in 1998, 5 acres of Pinot, planted in 2002, 3 acres of Riesling planted in 2000 and 3 acres of Sauvignon blanc planted in 2005.
Recently recognised as, and awarded a 5 Star Winery status (Outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality) in the 'James Halliday Wine Companion 2008'
